Korea is set to host the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit, which will feature not only a nuclear security summit among heads of states and many others but also the “NGO Nuclear Security Summit” to be attended by private sector experts from around the world. Nonetheless, little is known in Korea as to the exact meaning of the term nuclear security, let alone its significance or specific methodology to realize it on the ground. This study is intended to review and analyze overseas discussions on the significance, necessity, and promotion methods of nuclear security for the purpose of making contributions to the development of agenda for the “2012 NGO Nuclear Security Summit” to be held in Korea and to the successful progress of discussions at the summit.
